Cooerwull Academy

A nexus of speculation and inquiry; an agent of change.

The academy takes its name from an historical residential school at Bowenfels N.S.W., Australia., founded in 1883 by Andrew Brown Esq. and gifted to Andrew’s College within the University of Sydney.

With the school’s closure in 1916, the link to St Andrews ended, however the name was adopted by the present founders as an acknowledgement  of the educational vision of Andrew Brown, and by extension, all scholars and teachers, past and present; people who knew that “a society grows strongest when old men plant trees in the shade of which they will never sit.

We will never know who planted the trees in the shade of which Socrates strolled.

The current immaterial “cloud” Academy has been streamlined to eliminate the costs of physical accomodation and unnecessary administration.

It is an evolving open ended curriculum of questioning, exploration, and critical inquiry, manifested in forms appropriate to the circumstances.

ACADEMY IN THE GROVE

Currently in development is an “Academy in the Grove” iteration that will provide a permanent site for activities falling within the Academy’s fluid remit. Located on a farm surrounded by National Park in New South Wales, Australia, it has already hosted a number of international cultural events and been the co-ordination hub for distributed off-site local projects.

Landscaping and garden/grove plantings are underway, and construction of flexible multi-use structures will be completed as funding permits.
